Join us for the IHS 2014 Virtual Career Fair! Meet with our recruiters to learn more about IHS’ nationwide network of dedicated health professionals working to meet the individual health care needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives. In addition to real-time feedback and advice, you’ll find helpful links to career opportunities, loan repayment and scholarship program requirements and other IHS program resources. Our 2-hour live chat will be held on Wednesday, May 28 at 7:00 p.m. EST (4:00 p.m. PT).

If you’re a physician looking for a career that offers both professional and personal fulfillment, work/life balance and an opportunity to make a difference among an appreciate and deserving patient population, look no further. We are the Indian Health Service (IHS), an innovative, dynamic, nationwide organization of dedicated health professionals who work to meet the individual health care needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives. We are considerate in our care, creative in our approach, enthusiastic about our work and compassionate with our patients. Our lifestyle is adventurous, community oriented and focused on service and problem solving as part of an interdisciplinary team of clinicians.

Key to an IHS career is eligibility for repayment of your health profession education loans through the IHS Loan Repayment Program (LRP). The LRP provides up to $40,000 to cover qualified health profession education loans in exchange for a two-year service commitment at an approved Indian health facility. After completing the initial two-year contract, you may request (annually) an extension of your IHS LRP contract in exchange for an additional one-year service commitment until your qualified loans are paid.

IHS offers three distinct career options — federal civil service, direct Tribal/Urban Indian hire or as an officer with the US Public Health Service (USPHS). Whether your specialty is anesthesiology, emergency medicine, epidemiology, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, podiatry, psychiatry, radiology and surgery, you will work with the latest technologies and share knowledge with a mutually supportive team that will help you to grow, create solutions and contribute to IHS’ success.

Professionally fulfilling and personally rewarding — explore a world of opportunities at ihs.gov or contact a recruiter at IHSRecruiters@ihs.gov. Learn more about the benefits of financial freedom at http://www.ihs.gov/loanrepayment. Applicants must be US citizens, board eligible and board certified.

The policy of the IHS is to provide absolute preference to qualified Indian applicants and employees who are suitable for federal employment in filling vacancies within the IHS. IHS is an equal opportunity employer.

Upcoming Vietnam Team Trip Opportunities!

Two team trips in 2015 will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of United States involvement in the Vietnam War (1965‐2015).

The first team is April 22—May 8. This team will have extensive commutes to clinic and experience more of rural Vietnam. It will depart from Atlanta, GA, and arrive in Da Nang. Then it goes to Hue and is scheduled to work three days at the Floyd Olsen Memorial Clinic in Hong Ha. The team is also scheduled to go to a second clinic at Xuan Thuy in Quang Binh Province, VWAM’s first trip to the former North Vietnam. Located four hours north of Hue, this team will conduct a three‐day clinic near the location of VWAM’s current water project. The team will return to Hue for one night; then travel to Da Nang two nights before returning to the US.

This area has a dense population of economically disadvantaged people suffering from water borne health issues. During the war, Quang Binh Province was in the top three in terms of bomb tonnage dropped by the US, and is the birth‐place of Vietnam’s famous General Vo Nguyen Giap.

The second team is May 14—29. This team will also depart from Atlanta, GA, but will go to Ho Chi Minh City for two nights before arriving in Da Nang. The team is scheduled to work one week at Hoa Bac Civilian and Military Clinic, which also serves ethnic minorities. It is located about 35 minutes outside of the city.

Participation on both teams are open to both medical/health and non‐medical/health volunteers, and Vietnam vets are encouraged to return to Vietnam. There is a role for everyone to play on a team, regardless of professional training or lack thereof!

One of the highlights of the trip is the last evening in Da Nang when a celebratory dinner is held in honor of Vietnam and Vietnam Era vets, at the Furama Resort, near the former China Beach.

Trip price includes: International round‐trip economy‐class airfare from Atlanta (If you are on the west coast, you would fly‐out of SFO or LAX or SEA and meet the team in Seoul, South Korea) and all fly together into Vietnam; all hotels in Vietnam (4 or 5 Star) with daily breakfast; all team ground (Van) and air transportation (Economy‐class) in Vietnam; Lunch each day the team has clinic; One dinner at the Furama Resort; T‐shirt & tote‐bag; Visa; All fees, service charges, and taxes.

It is your financial responsibility to get to the departure airport for the international flight.

Applications can be downloaded from the Vets With A Mission web site, by clicking on the UPCOMING TRIPS tab. If you need more information or what to discuss your participation on one of two trips, please contact Chuck Ward by email at vetswithamission@backroads.net or call his office at 803‐405‐9926.
